Saying Goodbye to Windows Vista

Today, Microsoft officially ended support for Windows Vista. The odds you are still using Vista are slim, so there's not much to be concerned about. However, I would like to give Vista the credit it deserves, despite its poor reputation for general glitchiness. In terms of Windows, it was revolutionary. Continue reading...

Sep 15, 2016

iOS 10 came out yesterday, September 13. As with any major update to the Apple iPhone/iPad devices, there are several questions: will it mess up your phone? Will it be so different you have to relearn your device? Probably not, but the new Lock Screen could take some getting used to. Continue reading...

There's No Headphone Port on iPhone 7

Sep 8, 2016

Correct: there is, in fact, no 3.5mm headphone port in the iPhone 7. So what's Apple's new plan for allowing iPhone users to utilize headphones or earbuds? Good news-- you can still use your "outdated" (according to Apple) headphones. Continue reading...

Windows 10 marks a significant change in Microsoft's business strategy. The fact that it is offering Windows 7 and Windows 8 users a free upgrade (for a limited time) already demonstrates a major contrast to past versions. Text Message Forwarding in iOS 8.1

Jan 18, 2015

Apple has recently added the ability to send text messages (SMS) and answer phone calls from devices other than your iPhone. Previously, iMessages would sync between your Apple devices, which proved a great convenience to many. For example, when I'm not by my phone, I could still get the message on my computer. On the other hand, regular text messages, most commonly used when communicating with those with a non-Apple phone, didn't sync up until recently. Continue reading...

Sep 30, 2014

About two weeks ago, Apple hosted a special event where the iPhone 6 was announced. They confirmed many rumors of a secondary, larger phone model by simultaneously releasing the iPhone 6 Plus. The former has a screen size of 4.7 inches, and the latter of 5.5 inches, in contrast to the 4.0" iPhone 5s. There are a couple other differences between the two 6 models, but are they worth the $100 premium? Continue reading...

Easy Ringtones with GarageBand

Aug 17, 2014

The iPhone now has a decent selection of pre-installed ringtones, but many want to go farther with the personalization of their phone. Of course, you can buy a very wide variety of ringtones under the Tones section of the iTunes Store. Many of them are shortened versions of music tracks, however. My issue with this system: there's no reason that you must spend an extra dollar to get a ringtone of a song you already own. Some apps allow you to create a ringtone from your music, but few are both free and easy to use. However, if you have a relatively new Mac, you already have a powerful yet fairly simple way to make a ringtone: GarageBand. Continue reading...
